A vehicle pursuit led to the death of one person. The fatal crash in Walton County occurred on Sunday evening, December 19th. The decedent was fleeing a Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputy before crashing.

The sheriff’s office called the Georgia State Patrol to investigate. According to Cpl. Carl Barton, their investigation disclosed that a white Chevrolet Blazer was fleeing a WSCO deputy on the southbound lane of Georgia 81 near Habersham Circle. The WSCO patrol vehicle had its lights and siren activated while pursuing the fleeing vehicle.

The Chevrolet driver went off the west shoulder of Georgia 81 and struck a driveway culvert. The collision impact caused the Chevrolet to overturn to an uncontrolled final rest on its top, facing southwest. The fatal crash in Walton County left the driver trapped, and fire and emergency personnel extricated them.

Medics then transported the male driver to Atlanta Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. Barton said they identified the motorist as Walter Passmore, 62, of Loganville. His next of kin have been notified. There was no contact between the WSCO patrol vehicle and the fleeing car.

Car accidents occur due to the carelessness of drivers and other road users. In the first half of 2021, an estimated 20,160 people died in motor vehicle collisions, up 18.4% over 2020. Those who survive sustain different degrees of injuries, from minor catastrophic wounds.

While a person with a minor wound can return to life as they knew, a catastrophic injury alters a person’s life trajectory. However, Georgia law allows accident victims to claim compensation no matter the degree of their wound. But winning a compensation claim requires the expertise of a Georgia car accident lawyer. At the Law Office of John B. Jackson, our lawyers have decades of experience winning injury cases. Contact us today.
